Our Instructor
Greetings, my name is Troy L Smith. Like many others what drew me to Kenpo was the fast hand striking. I first started the martial arts in Korean based systems from Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and Cha Yon Ryu. When it was time to find a kenpo school the only school i could find was Fred Villari's Studios. I was the first student to sign up at the new school being opened in my town under Master Hugh Mc Laughlin. I trained with that school for several years until it closed. I than traveled back in forth to chicago at the new location i found which was also a Villari school and where i earned my black belt. I first discovered the American Kenpo system by accident. As my friend was taking kenpo but i thought it was the same as my style of Villari. when we started to compate the two styles i like his more and so i changed systems.
I have earned the rank of 6th Degree Black Belt in White Tiger Kenpo Karate, 3rd Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo.
I founded Ko Shin Kenpo Karate and Ko Shin Kenpo Karate Association in 2012. I have had the luck of meeting some great Kenpo teachers. I trained in private lessons with GM Paul Mills, Senior Professor Rich Hale and Professor James Smith. I am currently a student of Senior Professor Sean Kelley of the Chinese Karate Federation.
I recently founded Ko Shin Kenpo Karate Association. Ko Shin means OPEN MIND. I feel no matter what branch of Kenpo you study, no matter how many techniques you do we all train for the better of the art of American Kenpo and the Kenpo arts.
